A clearer picture of your business

Salon client retention calculator

How many clients are coming back? Turn your client counts into a retention rate, then decide where your team should focus.

Start with a completed return window.

Choose one month of client visits and allow the full return window to finish. Count unique people, not appointments. Only count returning clients who were in your original group.

For first-time retention, include new clients only. For existing-client retention, include clients who had visited your business before that month.

A client returning to another qualified team member still counts as returning to your business.

90 days is a common starting point for full-service hair salons. Use the window appropriate to your services consistently.

Count each person once in each group. Returning clients cannot exceed the original group.

Your numbers stay in this browser. No signup required.

What does your retention rate tell you?

Retention is the percentage of your measured client group that returns within the selected window. For example, 45 returning clients out of 100 equals 45%. A booked appointment alone does not count as a completed return visit.

Compare like with like

Track first-time and existing clients separately. Compare completed monthly groups using the same return window and reporting method. Seasonal visitors and service frequency can affect results. This calculator does not determine why clients did or did not return.

Review consultations, technical consistency, maintenance recommendations, booking convenience, and follow-up. Pick one improvement, coach the team, and review the next completed group.
